St. Therese of Lisieux
“I will let fall a shower of roses. I will spend my heaven doing good on earth.”
St. Therese is performing miracles with roses. My father always gave me red roses on my feast day, St. Therese. Since he passed away eleven years ago, I have not received red roses on St. Therese’s Day. In May of 1999, I was diagnosed with Stage 111 breast cancer. I started chemotherapy treatments before surgery in August. September 28th, 1999, was my sixth chemo treatment. My husband, John, came home that day with a dozen & half red roses. I had tears in my eyes, asking, "Why, after six treatments, are you bringing me flowers?” He said, ”I was at shopping at the market, and these roses jumped out at me in the florist section. I just felt you had to have them.”
I said, ”John, I haven’t had red roses on St. Therese’s Day in eleven years !!!” St. Therese’s feast day is October 1st, and the roses lasted for two weeks. I truly believe it was my father & St. Therese making sure I had a sign that would give me peace and faith in my healing.
I dried my red roses and brought them to the Historic Visit of St. Thérèse’s Relics on Sunday, October 24, at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross. I touched the dried red roses to St. Therese’s Relic 3 times. It is a miracle that her Relics came to Boston in the fall of 1999.
Another sign is the 1999 Making Strides for Breast Cancer walk was held on St. Therese’s feast day.
